What is the itinerary for the Three Peaks Trekking expedition over 3 days?

• 1st Day: Transfer x Torres de Bonsucesso x Refúgio das Águas

  • Walking time: 4 to 6h
  • Distance: 12 km On the first day of our expedition to the Três Picos State Park, we’ll meet in the morning at the Teresópolis bus station for a transfer to the base of Torres de Bonsucesso. We’ll start our trail to the Iron Clothes, a rock formation that resembles its name, where we’ll stop for a snack, then proceed to Pedra Entalada, a spot for a photo break. We’ll continue to the summit of the Central Tower, the highest point of the first day with a panoramic view of the Park, where we’ll take a short break for photos and rest at the summit. After this stop, we’ll begin our descent towards Refúgio das Águas, stopping at a traditional local restaurant for lunch before we reach the Refuge. At night, we’ll enjoy handmade pizzas made at the Refuge itself, savoring them to recharge for the second day.

  2nd Day: Refúgio das Águas x Matchbox x Valley of the Gods

  • Walking time: 6 to 8h
  • Distance: 18 km On the second day of the expedition to the Three Peaks, we will head towards the beautiful and unique formation of the Matchbox, by some called the Stone of Miracles due to its unique and improbable shape (which we will check out up close), passing through the Valley of the Gods and at the Dragon’s Head viewpoint. At the Matchbox, the more adventurous will be able to climb to its base using safety equipment (ropes, etc.) and get a privileged view of the entire Valley of the Gods and Valley of Friars, as well as a close-up view of the great Peaks of Nova Friburgo. We will return to our camp where we will be greeted with dinner and a relaxing massage, so we can rest and enjoy the magic of the Valley of the Gods and its charms.

  3rd Day: Valley of the Gods x Frades Waterfall x Teresópolis

  • Walking time: 4 to 6h
  • Distance: 15 km On our last day of the expedition to the Valley of the Gods, we will say goodbye to the base camp, and pack our backpacks again as it’s time to head towards the Valley of Friars on one of the most classic and beautiful crossings of the Três Picos State Park. We’ll make the scenic beauty trail passing by the Matchbox and descending to the Valley of Friars, which some compare to Yosemite Park from certain angles. We’ll go to the Frades Waterfall, our last stop, with a 10-meter drop, the waterfall forms a large natural pool, and is surrounded by the vegetation and mountains of the Park, offering a unique breathtaking scenery, ideal to conclude our expedition. Then we’ll head back to Teresópolis, the end location of our journey.
