In this format, all overnight stays during the expedition are in the homes of local residents on Ilha Grande, with dinners (Day 1 and Day 2) included in the itinerary.

What is the itinerary of the Ilha Grande Trekking Expedition in 3 days?

1st Day: Vila do Abraão (Ilha Grande) x Dois Rios x Parnaioca

Vila Dois Rios – The adventure begins in Vila do Abraão, known as the heart of Ilha Grande. We head towards the picturesque village of Dois Rios, a place full of fascinating history. In the past, individuals convicted of various crimes were sent to the Cândido Mendes Penitentiary. Well-known figures like Graciliano Ramos and Fernando Gabeira were imprisoned there during turbulent times.

The trek to Dois Rios is challenging, but the scenery is rewarding: a beautiful beach framed by mountains, with two rivers at its ends. It’s surprising to think that criminals once lived in this paradise. The answer to this contradiction lies in the relics and the local Prison Museum, open to visitors. The site had a sinister nickname: “Hell’s Cauldron.” In Dois Rios, we will take a break for a meal.

Parnaioca – After lunch, we continue to Parnaioca, where we will witness one of the most stunning sunsets on Ilha Grande. In the past, Parnaioca was a thriving community, but today it is home to only a few residents and some campsites. It is considered one of the most beautiful, remote, and isolated beaches on the island.

2nd Day: Parnaioca Beach x Aventureiro Beach

On the second day, we will cross from Parnaioca Beach to Aventureiro Beach by sea, using boats operated by local residents.

Before the boat crossing, we will spend the morning exploring Parnaioca Beach and its waterfall. Afterward, we will take a 20-minute boat transfer between the beaches and spend the rest of the day discovering the Aventureiro Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS) and its natural beauty. This conservation area allows its inhabitants to maintain their traditions while promoting sustainable tourism.

Aventureiro Beach is adjacent to the Biological Reserve of Praia do Sul, an off-limits area for visitors. Because of this, Aventureiro has restricted access and is highly sought after by young travelers and surfers in search of the perfect waves. We will also visit the famous Coqueiro Deitado (Leaning Palm Tree), an iconic landmark of Ilha Grande.

Our accommodation will be in rented guesthouses or well-equipped campsites, featuring shared kitchens and separate bathrooms. Electricity in Aventureiro is scarce, with generators operating only until 10:00 PM.

3rd Day: Aventureiro Beach x Araçatiba Beach

The final day of our expedition starts with a pre-dawn hike to the Sundará viewpoint, where we will witness the sunrise. Afterward, we will have breakfast and begin the final stretch of our hike. This day includes two challenging uphill sections before reaching Araçatiba, our final point on Ilha Grande, from where we will return to the mainland.

Provetá Beach – The community of Provetá is predominantly evangelical and is welcoming to visitors. In the past, when the island had limited infrastructure, many travelers would stop in Provetá to buy supplies, especially those heading to Aventureiro. While visiting Provetá, it is essential to respect the local culture and customs. We will make a brief stop here to refill our water and rest.

Araçatiba Bay – Today, Araçatiba Bay is one of the island’s main tourist hubs. It includes several beautiful beaches, such as Araçatibinha, Cachoeira, Vermelha, and Itaguaçu, making it the perfect retreat for relaxation and hiking. Upon arrival, we will enjoy some time on the beach before waiting for our boat transfer back to Vila do Abraão at 4:00 PM.
