How to get to Pedra Bonita?

Pedra Bonita 04

Check out where it is and how to get to Pedra Bonita: located within the limits of the Tijuca National Park, Pedra Bonita is in sector C of the PNT, between Praia da Barra and Praia de São Conrado, between the South and West zones of Rio of January.

Pedra Bonita is one of the most sought after trails in Rio de Janeiro. It is the ideal challenge for those looking for a light walk, with few obstacles and of course the beautiful view of the Marvelous City!

Pedra Bonita has an altitude of 693m and is located in sector C of the Tijuca National Park, overlooking some famous beaches in Rio de Janeiro such as Ipanema, São Conrado, Leblon; Besides having a great view of Floresta da Tijuca and Morro Dois Irmãos. Due to its privileged location, the Pedra Bonita region also has the only hang gliding takeoff ramp in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from where it is possible to take a Paragliding Double Flight or Hang Gliding Double Flight. The hang gliding ramp has a small grandstand so you can watch the takeoffs in comfort, it is also an excellent place to take pictures and enjoy the scenery.

Where is Pedra Bonita?

You can access Estrada da Pedra Bonita via Estrada das Canoas or Alto da Boa Vista: Arriving early it is possible to park the vehicle in the same place, otherwise you will need to leave the vehicle in a square in the direction of São Conrado, about 15 minutes from walk after the entrance to Estrada da Pedra Bonita.
Accessing Estrada das Canoas you will find the Tijuca National Park signs directing the way to Pedra Bonita.

How to get to Pedra Bonita by Public Transport?

By subway:

For those who go by public transport to the entrance of Pedra Bonita trail, our tip is the subway, you will take subway line 4 and get off at São Conrado station more specifically at exit C. The subway also offers integration with buses and train. From São Conrado station you can order an uber or take the 448 bus towards Alto da Boa Vista. Get off in front of the road that gives access to Pedra Bonita.

By bus:

For those coming from the west side of Rio, the best option is to take a bus to the Alvorada terminal, in Barra da Tijuca. At the terminal, take bus line 525 (General Osório) and get off at the Lagoa-Barra road. From there, take the 448 towards Alto da Boa Vista and get off in front of the access road to Pedra Bonita.

For those coming from the north of Rio, the best option is to take the 301 or 302 going up Alto da Boa Vista, go down a point after the Fire Department, cross the street and walk up to the access road to Pedra Bonita, about 30 minutes, or take the 448 bus.

For those leaving from Zona Sul or from the center of Rio, the best option is to take any bus heading to Zona Oeste and get off at the São Conrado walkway. From there take the 448.

Note: The 448 bus doesn’t pass very often, so be prepared to wait. If you come back at night, you will hardly get the bus to get off. The only place that has a cell phone signal is on the Free Flight Ramp and on the top of Pedra Bonita. In the parking lot, the cell phone usually doesn’t have a signal, so it can be difficult to call an uber.

How to get to Pedra Bonita by car?

By car:

For those leaving the South Zone, the best option is to go to São Conrado. Cross the Zuzu Angel tunnel, through the crow’s nest, or along the edge of Leblon, crossing Niemeyer Avenue, which has a beautiful view of the sea.

When arriving in São Conrado, pay attention to the signs that indicate the entrance to the Estrada das Canoas. Go up the road and keep an eye on the left side of the lane, where you will find the entrance to Pedra Bonita road – you will be on the other side of the lane. Just go up towards the access road to Pedra Bonita

For those leaving the North Zone, go up through Alto da Boa Vista towards Pedra Bonita road. After the Fire Department, turn left and follow the Placa until the access road to Pedra Bonita.

ATTENTION: On the access road to Pedra Bonita the climb is very steep and in some stretches, only one car passes at a time. You need to have a lot of attention when driving and a certain experience in slopes.

The parking lot is full on weekends as it is an easy and very famous trail in Rio, so get there early to secure your spot!
