Itinerary and Information about the Portais de Hércules Trekking Expedition

How is the Complete Portais de Hércules Trekking Expedition?

The Portais de Hércules Trekking Expedition begins at the meeting point between the guide and the participants. The hike starts at Vale do Bonfim, within Serra dos Órgãos National Park, in the Petrópolis sector. The first day’s trail covers 12 km with an elevation gain of 1,100m, leading to the Açu shelter.

On this day, we will witness the magnificent sunset from Morro do Cruzeiro, where the guide will prepare a mountain dinner. Afterward, we’ll rest in preparation for an early morning wake-up. With our lightweight backpacks and headlamps, we will hike 3 km in the dark to Portais de Hércules, where we’ll witness a stunning sunrise on the second day of the expedition.

At Portais de Hércules, we’ll enjoy a privileged view of Vale do Soberbo and the breathtaking mountains of Serra dos Órgãos. This location offers the most spectacular scenery in the region, part of what is considered the most beautiful hike in Brazil.

After taking in the views, we will return to our Açu campsite. Following a mountain breakfast, we will begin the final 12 km of our trekking expedition.
