What is the Hike and Rappel in Tijuca Forest like?

We will perform the hike and rappel at Bico do Papagaio on the second-highest mountain in the Tijuca National Park, at 989m of altitude. Our rappel will be vertical, with almost 20 meters of descent and with the vastness of the Tijuca Forest right behind us. The view is incredible!

The hike and rappel at Bico do Papagaio has an estimated duration of 8 hours and, just like the insurance, all safety equipment is included in the tour.

Itinerary of the Hike and Rappel in Tijuca Forest:

Meeting Point:
The tour starts at Praça Afonso Vizeu, in Alto da Boa Vista, where the guide will give initial instructions before we head to the entrance of Sector A of the Tijuca National Park.

Start of the Hike:
We will cover a total distance of 11 km. The path offers lush views of the Atlantic Forest as we make our way toward the highest altitudes of the forest.

Largo do Bom Retiro:
After about 1 hour of walking through trails and park roads, we will reach Largo do Bom Retiro, a strategic point and reference for those seeking to explore the highest mountains of Tijuca.

Summit of Bico do Papagaio:
After another 2 hours of walking, we will tackle a section of “scrambling” over rocks and roots to reach 949 meters above sea level at the summit of Bico do Papagaio. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking views that make this place unique.

Rappel at Bico do Papagaio:
At the summit, the guide will set up safety equipment for the 25-meter rappel. The descent offers an extra dose of adrenaline and incredible views, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

Cachoeira das Almas:
After the thrill of the rappel, we will take a relaxing break for a swim at Cachoeira das Almas, surrounded by the tranquility of the forest.

End of the Hike:
We conclude the day by returning to the starting point, carrying the memories of the adventures and the natural beauty of the Tijuca National Park.
